Why Polaris RZR Windshields Crack and How to Prevent It

Many UTV owners don’t give much thought to their windshields. Everyone wants to be prepared in case of a flat tire, fluid leak, or battery failure, but they tend to just assume the windshield is going to shield the wind and be invisible.

That can change when the windshield starts to get damaged. Fortunately, the Polaris RZR and the RZR XP are manufactured with a LEXAN polycarbonate windshield that is treated to prevent UV damage and has a hard-coated scratch-resistant finish.

But even the most up-to-date and innovative materials are not indestructible.

While durable and long-lasting, over time the sun will slowly cause opacity in the windshield or half windshield, and even the toughest coating can eventually scratch–and you will be surprised how often your encounters with trees, flying gravel, and goats will leave microabrasions that slowly compromise the transparency of the windshield.

To make sure your RZR windshield stays in excellent condition, with no damage or cracks, an extra layer of protection is a great way to go. Polaris RZR windshields benefit from the security of tear-off protective film.

Even a Hard Coated Polycarbonate Windshield Can Crack

While they possess amazing scratch resistance and resistance to impact, a polycarbonate windshield is far from indestructible.

If a windshield is compromised by solvents or oils, it will be substantially easier to break with future impacts.

But even a windshield made of polycarbonate at full strength can crack, given a strong enough impact. Rollovers are possible if you are using the UTV on uneven terrain, and it is not uncommon for a windshield to crack under this type of strain. But other impacts, like hitting a branch at the wrong angle or being struck by a falling rock, are definitely capable of causing cracks.

A Glass Windshield: Some Advantages, but Still Able to Be Cracked

If you opted for a glass windshield, UV damage and environmental stress cracking will not be a problem. But chipping and cracking will still be possibilities, as you might expect.

A safety glass windshield doesn’t shatter like other types of glass, but even the tiniest chip in the windshield from something as simple as a piece of flying gravel can quickly turn into a massive crack.

Invest in Scratch Resistant Tear-off Protection for UTV Windshields

When you are shopping for windshield accessories, don’t just look for quick straps or an upgraded flip windshield. Consider an investment that improves scratch resistance, impact resistance, and durability, and will even provide a layer of protection from UV damage and environmental stress cracking.

Tear-offs are an extra coating to cover your windshield against many different threats. They act like a screen protector for your windshield, ready to take damage so that your windshield remains untouched.

Each Polaris RZR or RZR XP tear-off has three layers. What does that mean? When the outer layer is damaged by a rock or branch, or just begins to become more opaque from microabrasions and UV damage, you can simply tear it off–revealing another perfectly clear, undamaged layer of protection for your windshield.

They are made to protect both a full windshield and a half windshield, depending on what you have installed, and each time you install the tear-offs, you are placing three whole layers of protection. Compared to the price of a polycarbonate or glass windshield, they are very affordable.

Shop today for tear-off protection for your polycarbonate or glass windshield, and enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you’ve added proven protection to one of the most vulnerable parts of your UTV.
